Known as the "Live Music Capital of the World", the city of Austin, Texas is an international presence in the world of entertainment and high culture. Education
Austin is home to the University of Texas, whose beautiful campus is attended by nearly 50,000 students. Their motto is "What Starts Here Changes the World" and considering their prestige among world-class universities, this is clearly not a boast. The Times rated the University of Texas as the 15th best university in the world, and a number of its doctoral programs are ranked within the top ten. As well as the university's academic reputation, the U of T's "Longhorns" enjoy a vast amount of support from the community and are the 2006 NCAA football champions. Additional secondary schools in the area include (but are not limited to) Concordia, St. Edward's, the Acton School of Business, and a branch of LeTourneau University. For the younger crowd, there are any number of private and public school, including Montessori and enriched programs for academically gifted children. The excellent public transportation system makes it easy for Austinites to get around the city without a car, especially to popular destinations in the Midtown shopping area and various campuses.

As previously stated, Austin is the "Live Music Capital of the World". As well as the many street performances available throughout the city, Austin is home to frequent concerts and festivals in gorgeous settings such as The Backyard, La Zona Rosa, and the Austin Music Hall. Big acts on their way across the States always have time to play in Austin, from Bruce Springsteen, the Foo Fighters, and Norah Jones, to David Bowie and Eric Clapton. Along famous Sixth Street are more than fifty nightclubs and gourmet restaurants, accompanied by live music of every variety. A staple of Sixth Street is Ester's Follies, a long-time show which includes comedies, parodies, and magic shows. For the athletically inclined, Austin is home to innumerable golf resorts, including the exclusive Barton Creek Resort and Spa---with four nationally ranked championship golf courses combined with a spa, tennis courts, and two gourmet restaurants. The city's clement weather makes for excellent hiking---or, if you're feeling adventurous, parasailing on Lake Austin. If you have a taste for the Old West, attractions such as the Colbert Ranch enable visitors to become part of a working ranch, with horseback riding, outdoor cooking, and sightseeing across the Texas Hill country. Should you wish to adventure indoors, you'll find that Austin is host to more shopping than even the most dedicated shopaholic could work through in a score of visits. For couture, visit Barton Creek Square, home to more than 180 speciality retailers, including Nordstrom, Dillard's, Macy's and Sears. If you're more interested in local productions, the Austin Farmer's Market and the Artist's Market feature a variety of goods, from homegrown veggies to exotic imports and one of a kind artwork. Should your bent be education, there are a number of internationally recognized museums, including the Harry Ransom Center and Blanton Museum of Art (both located on the U of T campus).
